Amazing Cake

Amazing cake,
How sweat the taste
that made me fat and weak!
I ate it all
I gained ten pounds
Now I can't see my feet.

Literal Expressions

"Justice, you need to put some long pants on or you will freeze your booty off out there."

"My booty won't come off, Mom."

Interior Decorating Fun

We have a large, old print of "Blue Boy" that Bruce dragged home from an auction several years ago, I guess thinking that we might someday do something with the frame. It's been sitting in my basement ever since. I was on my way to the outside trash with it, when I came up with a better plan for "Blue Boy." I hung it up in the stairwell that leads to the basement. I gave the kids some crayons and markers and told them to have a ball. I think I'll just leave it there forever and let whoever comes over just fill it in however they feel inspired. (The only rule being no potty words). How fun is that?!

Every Now and Then

Every now and then, just for fun, you have to do really silly things like throwing butter across the room, (The kids were singing the song about "Fuzzy little caterpillar, wiggled up the tree .... only God in Heaven, can make a butterfly.") just for the great big laughs your kids will do. I once threw a raw egg on the kitchen floor as hard as I could, just for that very reason. Then I had to tell the kids that they were never allowed to do that. I'm such a hypocrite.

Where Do Pulled Teeth Go?

According to Ross, into the fish tank. Ross was at the dentist yesterday to have a baby tooth pulled, well actually only half of a baby tooth. The first half came out in the usual way, but the second half was left behind, so I decided to let the dentist have a shifty at it. While we were in the waiting room, Ross was amusing himself by sneaking up on the fish in the fish tank and scaring the crap out of those poor little things when he had an epiphany.

"Mom, I just had a horrible thought! What if all of those things at the bottom of the fish tank (the tiny rocks varying in color from white through all of the browns) were all the teeth that the dentist pulled out?!"

We now have new saying to inspire tooth brushing: "Watch out, your teeth are going to wind up in the fish tank!"

Renae is a Techy

That's right! The cd changer on our stereo system wouldn't turn. I bravely unplugged it from the wall, undid all of the speakers, took out 19 screws (which turned out to be more than was necessary), and took off the metal casing. Yes, being the technological genius that I am, I found a stray pencil jammed in there, took it out and viola! The cd changer works again. I even remembered where to put all three types of the screws. I'm expecting a call from Bill Gates any minute requesting my superior skills and intellect for work on his next project. Now if I can just figure out how to reattach all of the speakers...

Jet-Ray Says His Prayers

Justice had a sleep over at Grandma's house.

Grandma: Justice, can you say your prayers?

Justice: Okay, but I'm going to be Jet-Ray. (In a silly superhero voice) Dear Heavenly Father...(says his prayers all in Jet-Ray voice) ...amen. bleep. (Continues in normal voice.)

St. Patrick's Day Race Zilla-Pede

Bruce and I had a good time with our Team Godzilla buddies today at the St. Patrick's Day Race. There were about 11,000 people racing, but I don't think anyone had as much fun running it as we did.

About eight of us tied ourselves together and ran zig-zags and loop-de-loops around all of the cop cars and up and down stairs and all kind of other crazy shenanigans for the entirety of the 5 mile race. We ended the day with lunch at a neato grill. It was a good time for sure!

I am SOOO Tired!

My day started at 5:30 (on only about 5 hours of sleep, which for me is NOT enough) when I met my buddies and ran 13 miles. Next it was home to shower up and take the family to the park for some BBQ and hiking. The weather was great, and we had a good time. Then home for a couple of hours to sit around, then to the movies with Bruce and the three older kids to see Alice in Wonderland, which got mixed reviews from our house. Bruce, Lydia and Mark liked it; I think Ross liked it, but I thought it was a pretty queer piece of crack cocaine. I didn't like the book, so I don't know what made me think that I'd like the movie. And Jonny Depp wasn't even anything good to look at in that one. Anyway, I'm so tired right now that I don't even know if I have to energy to go and get the camera to put my pictures with this post. Huh, guess I do after all, but I don't feel like positioning or captioning. Deal with it.

Things To Blog About

Before I move on, here is my favorite question of the day: Ross asks "Mom, who has more honor: the president of the United States or the guy who gets to wash Heavenly Father's dirty socks?"

I of course replied "The guy who washes Heavenly Father's socks."

Last night was the Young Authors Book night thing at the schools where they display all the books and give out awards to all the kids who wrote them. I've never bothered to go to one of these things before, but this time (excuse a little brag here) Mark's book was one of the 18 out of about 600 books in our district chosen to go on to the county level. Whoot Whoot for Markus Parkus! I was working on one of my many many many house projects, this time it was sanding the drywall on the kitchen ceiling. Let me tell you, sanding drywall sucks, but doing the ceiling is infinitely worse! Such an awful mess! Anyway, I had not quite left myself enough time to clean up the mess, shower and grill some sandwiches quick for dinner before time to rush off to the school. So I was all in a hurry and Bruce calls me on the phone and says

"Renae, what happens every Thursday at out house at 5:00?"

"I've no idea. What?"

"Come on, EVERY Thursday at 5:00."

"I don't know. What?"

"Every Thursday at 5:00 someone comes over to our house. I'm following him down the street right now."

"OH CRAP! Piano lessons!"

I totally forgot that I was supposed to be giving a piano lesson. What an idiot. I quick brushed the dust off my face and gave a lesson. Bruce was the best and made sandwiches right after having been at work all day. We rushed around and did make it on time after all.

Anyway, Mark got his award. And true to his chick magnetism, he spent a good deal of time running away and hiding from no less than five girls from his class who were clearly in pursuit. It was too funny.Ross also did a very good book which he actually spent quite a bit of time on. Though he didn't get to go on to county, he deserved it. He really did a good job.
And just for fun here's Fat Guy in a Little Coat:

A Little Thing That Made Me Smile

Ross and Mark are always playing some game on Poptripica.com or something like that. They are forever making up user names and passwords for their game and leaving them around the house. Just now I was cleaning up and I found one of their password papers. The user name was "Mommy" followed by a bunch of numbers, and the password was "I love you." How sweet is that! I think I won't bother to throw this one away, but I'll save it in the computer desk.

Post Script: Yesterday Mark's user name was "Kill you" followed by a bunch of numbers. So they aren't ALL sweetness. Also as he was making up his new password, he said to me "I bet no one EVER thought of using 'password' as their password!" ~ LOL!

What Do You Think?

Honestly? I'm spending part of my tax return. We've got a great sectional couch which is currently in our basement. The structure is good, but the upholstery is shot. I pretty much despise the couches currently in our living room. So I'm enlisting the help of my mother (who has done this type of thing before) and we are going to reupholster my basement couch and bring it back up. I found a great website where you can order upholstery at MEGA discount prices (75% off everything). I think they buy remnants and resell them. After shopping around and ordering swatches, trying to make sure that I buy something super durable, and finding fabrics I like only to find out that they don't have enough, or that once I got the swatch it wasn't as durable looking as I wanted, or just right in this or that way, ANYWAY after a much searching (and a huge run on sentence that would kill any English teacher on the spot), I've placed an order. Here's what I'm doing, and I HOPE that I will love it. (I'm infamously terrible at decorating. This would be a ghastly expensive mistake. But none the less, PLEASE be honest!)

I love the colors in this one, but it's way too busy to do a whole couch in. Out of this fabric, I'm going to make box valances and a few throw pillows.

This is the fabric I chose to do the couch out of. It's got the burgundy color to match the other fabric and a gold color that matches my walls. It is also VERY tightly woven which should make it pretty durable.
Man, I hope I like this!!!!! Oh BTW, here is a link to this wonderfully inexpensive place to buy good fabrics. They will send you all the free swatches you want (without your having to pay postage).
